Celebration

Celebrate, Celebrate – Dance to the Music!

Sheri here –

Celebrate, Celebrate – Dance to the Music!  What’s up with that??

Why, celebration is the best acknowledgment of an accomplishment, a special occasion, or just because.

We don’t need permission from someone else to acknowledge our accomplishments or that of another.

Celebration is underperformed!!

It doesn’t need to be lavish, expensive, fattening or self-sabotaging in any way.

Celebration is how we get to mark something special.  We can invite others to join us or to savor it by ourselves.  It can be a big event like a wedding or a graduation, a birth or an engagement.  Or it can be special to only you – a completion of a project, losing a pound, facing a fear or another personal milestone.

I passionately believe that every event or project we plan needs to have celebration built in.

I remember when I was working in Corporate America, celebration – acknowledgment of a job well done was sporadic.  But those leaders that made it a part of every project were those leaders that most people followed.  They wanted to be part of their organization or event – no matter the size, difficulty or risk.

Was there a connection?  I think so.

So often, we are starved for acknowledgment or praise – we need to begin to do that for ourselves.  That’s where it starts and then spreads.  When we celebrate ourselves, it becomes naturally to celebrate the accomplishments of others.

Growing up – coming home with good grades or a birthday or a holiday seemed to be the only time there was a celebration, an acknowledgement of something done well.

Those words “Good Job” are so important.

Just imagine what life would be like if you automatically said “good job” or “thank you” or “how great is that” to those around you.  How would the environment change?  Wouldn’t it become more fun?  What would the smile rate be?  The happiness quotient?

Do you think that the improvement in your personal satisfaction level is worth a few creative celebrations?

Recently, large in person get togethers have been frowned up – so I’ve seen “drive-by” celebrations for weddings, birthdays, Brownie Bridge Ceremonies – practically everything.

Try it – look for the reasons in your life to celebrate you.  Look for the reasons in others lives to celebrate them.  It could be something as simple as a text, a snail mail handwritten note, a phone call, a bouquet of flowers or as lavish as a full blown event – a dress up evening out!

Make it part of your projects, tasks and events.  Make celebration a regular practice in your life!

Leave a comment below and share some of your creative ideas for celebration events – for yourself or acknowledging others. And what‘s your most recent celebration you’ve done?

Mine?  Looking myself in the mirror and saying good job – that 5 Day Challenge was awesome!!  The flowers will come later this weekend!

Celebration: the New Normal & Mothers

Sheri here –

Awakening, Restarting, Rebooting, Emerging….

I don’t care what you call it, but the “stay at home” orders are slowly, slowly being unwound.

It is like we have been frozen and are defrosting.

Yet, it is more than that. Much, much more than that.

The “New Normal”

It is the start of a slow healing and rebuilding phase for our country, our communities and ourselves.

How much of what we discovered or learned will we hold onto?

I would like to think we hold onto the good stuff and use the not so good stuff to learn from and motivate us to do things differently.

In some ways there were huge, courageous strides made by many – including myself and some of those close to me.

We started doing some of the things on a regular basis that we had discussed doing for a long time. We did other things that we had been putting off for a long time. And let’s not forget the massive learning – new skills (Zoom on a WHOLE new level, new technologies) and new directions.

Here at my home, we cooked at least 2 meals a day, I’ve done more cooking in the last two months than I have done in the last two decades. Healthy, effortless meals that were a team effort.

Spending less on our total food budget while we ate better, because we weren’t grabbing that fast food.

Walking in the neighborhood and stopping and looking at spring in blossom.

How about you?

What do you want to hold onto as we slowly emerge and begin our trek into the New Normal? How do you plan to celebrate? Think about it – it is an occasion that deserves it!

Share in the comments below: what you are planning on holding onto after “stay-at-home” and how you will celebrate!

Mother’s Day

Speaking of celebrations – this weekend is Mothers’ Day.

How do you plan to honor your Mother and the Mothers in your life? Maybe you also had that incredibly special person who took you under their wing like the Mother you always wanted.

Celebration

Share those celebration ideas, those ideas for honoring Mom in the comments below.

Reach out and let them know. Maybe you can’t do it in person for oh so many reasons, find another way to cherish them.

I plan to spend some time in my rose garden. My Mother gave me my love of roses. I’ve planted a rose garden in every home I’ve lived in as an adult. The moments I spend there are my opportunity to spend time with Mom.

Your celebration of Mom doesn’t need to cost a lot money – its more important that you reach out in your own special way and let her know how much she means to you.

However, you do it, make it special for you both!

Until the next time.

Ciao and hugs,

Sheri

Celebrate Victories and Accomplishments

Sheri here –

Celebrate?  What are you talking about?  What is there to celebrate now?

It is the quiet time of year – the only big thing coming up is Valentines Day and that isn’t always a time to celebrate.

But wait, there is YOU.  You are the one to celebrate.  How are your SMARTER goals coming along?  Have you had any successes, even small ones?  Have you celebrated those?

Are you still on track with those goals?  With your vision for the year?  That is something to celebrate.  Just think, if you had made resolutions, you would probably be over, done, out!  Yet here you are still focused on the goals you made for yourself.

Celebration is one of the important steps in achieving your dreams, your goals – those dreams with a plan.

Oh, you aren’t used to celebrating victories, even if they are small milestones?  Maybe it is time to consider adopting a new practice!

Celebrate Victories & Accomplishments

Dontcha just love to acknowledge yourself and those around you for a good job?  A great completion?  No, you don’t acknowledge those around you – maybe it is time to reconsider.  After all, don’t you enjoy that recognition yourself?

What do you say to a child when they accomplish something for the first time, that they’ve been working toward?  Maybe even their first step?  Aren’t you excited for them?  Do you tell they that you knew they could do it!  Hug ‘em and give ‘em a high five?

Don’t you love to watch that child’s face light up with the praise – that is a celebration.

I’m talking about the same thing for YOU.

Did your parents ever say, “I’ll give you a $1, or maybe $10, for every “A” you bring home?  And then you envisioned how you would spend that money when you accomplished that goal?  And when you did, how excited you were for the celebration (the money) when you brought home that report card.

OK, maybe that wasn’t you, maybe that wasn’t something that happened for you; but think about something that you did do – a sports accomplishment, a trophy or a ribbon.  You got the lead in the school play.  Maybe you won the prize for best dessert in a contest.

Whatever form it was, think back, remember how that felt.  Savor that old feeling.  Now, bring that into today.

Maybe you never were celebrated or rewarded before, even more reason to celebrate yourself for your victories.  If no one else has done it for you, YOU need to do it for you.

It is never too late to start.

It doesn’t have to be a lavish event.  It could be something simple – a bouquet of flowers, a jar of bath salts, a cup of tea with a friend.

For a really big accomplishment, it could be a really big celebration.  For instance, a big birthday party for a birthday ending in a “5” or a “0” with your friends and family.

Or maybe a big trip as a reward for a big event, it is the prize at the end of the goal!  Just the reason you needed to do it!

You’ve Completed That Step!

It’s time to continue working on the next project, on the plan, or on the goal.

Maybe you didn’t make as much progress as you had been hoping, now is the PERFECT time to go back and evaluate the progress you’ve made and readjust your plan.  These are the “ER” steps in “SMARTER”. See “Making Change – Smarter Goals”.

It is this process that makes goals different from resolution.  The celebration and the “ER”.  This is the process that makes dreams a reality.

Until the next time, celebrate often and keep moving forward on your SMARTER goals.

Ciao,

Sheri

P.S. Drop a comment below and share how you like to celebrate.

Celebrate Success

I recently completed a ten part interview series – Making Lemonade Out of Lemons, empowering women to grow and profit from their life challenges.  Amazing, eh?

It was something that I had never done before and the subject of empowering women to be successful through thick and thin is a topic near and dear to my heart.

In the process, I was stretched beyond where I thought I could stretch.

And yet, when I walked through the fear of doing something, many things actually, outside my existing comfort zone, I discovered something.
