Grief

Countin’ Blessings

Sheri Here,
This will be short. This week was filled with emotion, the result of doing life kinds of things.

A good friend of mine passed away at the end of January. This week was her memorial service. It was a well-attended by people from all aspects of her life: her church, work, and service communities. While I was very sad, the service was a gift, a way of coming to closure, a lot of tears and a few out right laughs.

She was a blessing in my life and will be missed. I’m grateful to have known her.

We can find gratitude in everyday things. It’s the best way, countin’ those blessings every day.

Hug tight those special ones in your life when ever you can. Tell your loved ones they are loved. Don’t pass up a single opportunity to show a random act of kindness. Smile at people – you don’t know what’s going on in their life. Be that great person you admire. Laugh out loud with friends and family. Then be amazed at what love, joy and happiness you have to count as blessings.

Until the next time …

Ciao,

Sheri

The End

Sheri here,

Here we are at the unofficial end of summer – Labor Day Weekend.

Labor Day as a Holiday

As an official holiday, it was first celebrated Nationally in 1894 and was earmarked as a day to honor the achievements of the laboring class.  Over time, the achievements won by this group included the now traditional eight-hour work day, five-days a week with a minimum wage.  Other accomplishments included expanded benefits for the working class.

We get to enjoy Labor Day as another three-day holiday weekend.

Other Significant Meanings to Labor Day

I remember I usually started school the day after Labor Day.  So, parts of this special holiday weekend were spent grieving the end of summer and the wonderful break from school.  Now most schools start in late August.

Labor Day weekend is seen as another occasion for retailers to host big sales focused on back-to-school or the Fall weather and attitude change.

Long ago, there was a fashion dictum that white was not worn after Labor Day.  Today, we have the freedom to wear what we choose.  Some choices I wonder about, but who am I to judge?  I’m certain some folks have looked at my choices with askance and wonder: “what was she thinking?”

Around Town

On the book front, “Everything I Learned About Life I Learned on Vacation”, is now moving into the publishing cycle.  Soon I’ll have my pre-sale page up and with it a special bonus surprise – stay tuned.  You’ll be able to order it for delivery once it’s published (date TBD).  In the meantime, sign up for the wait list to be amongst the first to hear.

May you have a wonderful and safe weekend whatever you do – celebrate with friends, shop, or wear interesting clothes.

Until the next time, may you have a blessed week.

Ciao,

Sheri
