Make New Friends

Sheri here –

We need to be willing to continue to nurture and grow our circle of friends. As I mentioned in The Five People Who Surround Us (Go here), we need to surround ourselves with people that support and nurture us.

I’ve had a number of long-time friends pass on. The older we get, unfortunately, the more that will happen. Have you experienced that loss, too?

Our lives are full of having known them, yet our heart may be sad and our lives less full.

What do we do? Stay in the sadness, not risking in expanding our circle once again? I think not!!

What about you?

Yet, how do we meet new people and nurture them to become part of our inner circle?

Make New Friends

Where do you find new friends?

Finding friends starts with the willingness to step outside your comfort zone, to step outside the comfortable, to step outside what you have known and done for a while.

Argh, not that, anything but that!

You made a decision – NOW you screw up your courage and you are willing to step out, what’s next – where do you go?

If you are an entrepreneur, you have lots of places to look. It can start with going to a new networking function or a meeting at the local chamber of commerce or even a business conference.

First say hello, stick out your hand, ask them their name and something about themselves.

You have started the getting acquainted part!

Stay in Touch

Next is the staying in touch part. Send them a note and tell them how nice it was to meet them and possibly suggest a follow up meeting.

Send them a note and tell them how nice it was to meet them and possibly suggest a follow up meeting.

Spend a little more time with them, long enough to determine if you feel connected, if the people you have met are people you want to spend time with or you want as your potential clients!

Ok, so you aren’t an entrepreneur, then what?

Try a new hobby. No matter what it is, whether you seek out a store with classes or look for an event somewhere to gather information – take a friend or go alone and explore. You never know who you might discover or find a new hobby for fun. If that doesn’t work, keep exploring.

Money Saving Tips

While you are discovering new adventures, these money saving tips could give you a little more money in your pocket for those new adventures!

  1. Wait for the annual or semi-annual sale to buy your intimate apparel
  2. Buy generic drugs or store brands for prescriptions and over-the-counter products. Look at the ingredients, they are generally identical to the brand name, frequently made by the same manufacturer, but at a lower cost!
  3. Get your brewed coffee at the convenience store, the Stop ‘n Go or 7/11 rather than the specialty brew, add some of the flavored creamer for extra flavor and pay a lower cost.
  4. Call your cable TV or satellite provider company and see if you can get it cheaper. Tell them you are evaluating their competitor, if that is an option!
  5. Shop for a lower interest rate on your home loan. If you have a mortgage broker you trust, check in with them periodically to see if rates have changed enough to refinance. Consider that you’ll need to recover the financing fees – the cost of getting the loan.

Drop a comment below and let us know if you are venturing outside your comfort to meet new friends and where you might need help!

Enjoy the adventure and meeting new friends!!

The Five People Who Surround You

Sheri here –

Jim Rohn, a motivational speaker said “you are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with”.  I’m not certain how I feel about that.  First, I don’t feel average, I choose to believe I am special – because I am ME.

What about you?  Does this resonate?  Were you uncomfortable when Jim Rohn implied you were average?  Or are you the one with a rich full life, the envy of your friends?

Why Are the People Surrounding Me So Important?

They allow me into their life, to cherish the special times, even the moments we spend together, to celebrate their victories, to learn from their experiences and to support them in times of loss. In return, they do the same for me.

We are all better for these types of relationships.  These rich relationships reflect the abundance in our lives because of the people around us.  And it isn’t necessarily limited to five people.

When I started looking around to see who I did spend my time with, I realized that the marvelous group had gotten smaller.  Smaller through attrition, some of those long-time great folks were starting to move onto the great beyond.

My heart is sad for their going, and my life is bigger for the knowing.

Expand Your Definition of Abundance

Abundance, prosperity and wealth come in more forms than just money; relationships are one of them.  Consider expanding your definition of abundance and your feeling of wealth!

While you are expanding your definition of abundance and wealth, use the following tips to start saving money.

  1. Sign up for all the loyalty programs (airline, hotel, and car) that are available to you.  These may be sources of free airline tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals.
  2. Instead of buying a new car, buy a pre-owned 2- or 3-year-old car.  The biggest drop in value happens during the first year (ok when you drive it off the lot).  Let someone else pay the higher price.
  3. Know your credit card due dates and make payments prior to those dates to avoid late fees.  If the due date is a problem, request a change in date.  Many times, the credit card company is willing to accommodate your needs.
  4. Reconsider, even stop completely, grocery and meal delivery services – avoid the delivery and tip fees.
  5. Do you need a new purse or briefcase (yes, some people still use them)?  Buy a higher quality bag and keep it longer, which will lower the cost in the long run.  Shop the thrift stores or discount apps to find a “gently” used high quality bag that meets your needs for a fraction of the price.

Until the next time – enjoy the prosperity and the feeling of abundance in all areas of your life.

Asking for Help

Ask for What? Help!!

Sheri here –

Have you ever discovered that you had a splinter in your finger, and you have no recollection of when or how it happened? Worse, you can’t see it well enough to remove it?

When did our vision, our eyesight change?

The last time I tried to use a needle and thread, I was getting ready to leave my hotel room on the way to a meeting and I looked down and saw a ripped seam in a very visible spot.

All I had was a little hotel sewing kit. You may know the one, the one with a few strands of basic colored threaded and a needle, maybe a button and a tiny safety pin. The eyes of the needle is one of the teeny tiny ones. The ones that used to be easy to thread; but now, that bloody thread wasn’t going into that little hole.

At home, I have needles with big eyes or ask for help in repairing it; but in my hotel ready to walk out – a different story.

I Remember I Used to Laugh

I remember, I used to laugh at my quirky Aunt Lorene, who I just adored, and the stuff that she would do.  She couldn’t see something; realize she needed her glasses and then she would wander all over the house looking for her glasses, only to discover they were on the top of her head.

I’d giggle and then she would turn to me and give me that look – you know that look the “just wait, your turn is coming”.  With the arrogance of youth, I thought “no way, never gonna happen to me!”

But here I am, trying to thread that needle, looking for my glasses or my car keys or my cell phone.

I had become my quirky Aunt chasing my glasses, my car keys, my cell phone.

When does our vision change?  Is it the same time our perspective on life changes?

Do you relate to any of this?

What Do We Do?

What do we do? Fight it, refuse to believe it, accept it, or, wait for it, ask for help – are you kidding? That doesn’t seem right, well, not yet!

Sometimes the solution is surrender. Pause, stop for a moment, take a deep breath, maybe ask the Universe, God, or your Higher Power for help.

The Universe, God, or your Higher Power ALWAYS answer. Maybe not the one you want, and it is frequently one of the following: Yes, no or not now (darn!!)

A solution arrives, many times in an unexpected manner, other times, hitting the pause button is all that was needed. Those keys or phone or glasses show up.

That needle in the hotel, persistence worked – the pause gave me a new perspective.

In that moment of surrender, when we just throw up our hands and say what the heck, there seems to be just enough room for a change in our thinking, our perspective, our point of view.

Maybe the change in perspective is asking for help.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Keep More Money in Your Pocket

So, while I go looking for the tweezers with the magnifier attached for my splinter, here are a couple changes of perspective for keeping more money in your pocket.

  • Consider becoming a distributor for your favorite cosmetics, skin and hair care. Get it wholesale!
  • Look at the coupons in your drug store to see if you can save on items that you use regularly.
  • Avoid online shopping when you’re in a “retail therapy” trying-to-fill-a-hole-mode. Maybe talk to a friend instead.
  • Buy a classic coat and sweater style in basic colors or your favorite color that you can use season after season. Splurge on a beautiful scarf and change the look.
  • Call your cable TV or satellite provider and see if you can get a cheaper rate – tell them you’re also looking at their competitor (of course if there is no competition, just asking for options might help).

Drop a comment below and let me know how these tips are working for you and how I can help!

Be Your Authentic Self

Be Your Authentic Self

Sheri here –

Do you ever ask yourself, “what do I want to do when I grow up? Who am I now, who is the authentic me, today?

What are the things that are important to you no matter what? You know, those biggest blessings in your life – the ones that you would go to any length to protect?

Maybe it is your freedom to do as you choose –  to have the best life for your family, to help another person believe in themselves or in their dreams, to spend time doing what you are passionate about, to take a break and pamper yourself or go somewhere special.

Live your authentic, true to yourself life

Let me ask you, are you doing it?

Is that how you are living your life, now, like today, right this minute, now?  Ok, maybe it isn’t every day; but is it once a week or once a month?  Are you living your authentic, true to yourself life?

Sometimes I get so caught up in doing the everyday things, that I lose sight of the important things in my life and I need to be reminded.  It doesn’t need to be a big reminder, it could be a gentle whisper: an email from a friend, a brief glimpse of someone who reminds you of someone, an article on your phone or a movie poster.

Can you relate?  Then maybe you need to take some time, sometime just for you to breath, to think, to dream, to be the authentic you.

What Stops You?

What does it take to be able to live that authentic true to yourself life?  Time, planning, a little money?  What stops you – the time, planning, a little money or all three?

Block some time on your calendar, like you do when you HAVE TO go to the doctor or dentist or a MUST DO event.  Just block the time off.  Make an appointment with yourself for you.  Maybe you need that time to call and spend some time talking or FaceTiming a friend, to plan what is important to you or to escape for a few hours to replenish your soul.

No matter what – keep that appointment with you. Allow yourself to get back in touch with the authentic you.

Maybe you don’t know who the authentic you is any longer?  Allow yourself some time with no distractions to think, to daydream, to doodle, to talk with the Universe, to commune with the stars, to stare at your belly button – whatever clears your mind to think and get reacquainted with who you are today.

You owe that to yourself.  After all this is your life, don’t you want to have some say in how you live it and to be the authentic you?

Choose one “authentic you” thing to plan.  It could be a weekend away with a friend of your choice, possibly, even just you, a party, raise funds for your favorite charity, enroll in school and take a class, start to write a book, learn a new hobby … in other words: ANYTHING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF DESIRES!

Think of all the steps you need or want to do to create that desired outcome.  You do not need to do any of them right now – just build the plan, unless you are inspired to get into action on one or two.

Now put some target dates to those steps on your plan, then put those dates or timeframes for action in your calendar.  Then act. Start with a small step, then another – they add up!!

So You Say You Need Money

Ok, so you say you need money to fully complete your plan – you know all the suggestions I’ve been sharing with you these last couple of weeks – take the money that you’ve been saving from them and set it aside to fund living your authentic life.  It will happen faster than you think when you take one step at a time or implement one savings at a time…

To help with your money fund, here are 5 more hot tips for saving money!!

  1. Look for an independent massage therapist or a small business, rather than using a spa, for lower massage rates.
  2. Go to the library and borrow a movie, an audio book, an album or other digital media for no cost.
  3. Shop around for a new telephone service (cell or landline for business or personal), check pricing and benefits – investigate the opportunity to get the same or more for a lower price.
  4. Check out your local Credit Union – they may have lower or free checking fees.  Just assure them they are insured with the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.
  5. Comparative shop the various discount travel services for potentially lower rates for airplanes, hotels and cars.  Be certain to read the fine print and consider travel insurance against the unexpected!

Leave a comment and let me know what your authentic self is thinking.  I’d love to hear how you are making plans to be true to you and how I can support you!

Birthdays Are Special

Sheri here –

Earlier this week I celebrated my birthday – at this point, suffice is to say, I’m not 39 or 50 or even 60 again and I have finally accepted that.  I am blessed.

And, I have a special gift for you!  I’m giving away presents for my birthday!  I’ve put all these tips I’ve been sharing and more into a special “101 Ways to Save Money” free eBook just for you!  It is available to you, just click right here!

So, what’s the big deal with a birthday celebration?  Some people go all out and celebrate not only the day; but the week, sometimes even the month!  Bravo!  It is the time we get to do EXACTLY as we choose – how great is that?

Making time for the important things in life

For me, what makes it super special is that I get to celebrate with my youngest granddaughter who turned 3 this year.  She is a bundle of energy!  So much fun and she has quite the personality.

Making time for my granddaughters is one of the important things in my life – what are yours?  Your family, your career, your selfcare, your purpose?

If it is important to you, does your calendar show it?  Have you blocked time to assure that you spend your time and energy on the things that are important?

Or do you say one thing and your walk shows another?  Then it is time that you made some simple shifts in your life.  What?  And how are you supposed to do that with all the demands on your time?

Start small – block time on your calendar for the important things in life, just like you block out time for a doctor appointment or a business meeting.  Then stick to it.  Do not give you away if something “urgent” comes along.

If rescheduling must take place, then make it a reschedule, not a cancellation, of the commitment to yourself, just like you would reschedule a doctor appointment or a business meeting.

Act your way into a new way of thinking

What does this have to do with saving money?

It is very much the same principle.  You start with an idea, a commitment to yourself and you go for it.  You put your new thinking into action – not just once; but time after time.

Afterall, you’ve heard that it takes repetition to create a new habit.  This is where you get to act your way into new thinking.  Have you ever noticed how hard it is to change an old pattern – that is because you must keep thinking about the new action until it becomes a habit. Then you are on autopilot!

5 tips to save you money

Save money and work on your commitments to yourself with these 5 tips!

  1. Your hairstylist doesn’t need to be in the most expensive salon in town to be great.  Do a little price shopping, especially if you aren’t getting what you want! (This will help with your commitment to self care!)
  2. Shop the 99cent, Dollar Store or Big Lots for gift bags, gift wrap, ribbons, cards and other gift accessories.  (This will help with your commitment to remember special occasions!)
  3. Shop Farmer’s Markets for fresh fruit and vegetables.  They are generally fresher, cheaper and a bonus – organic! (This will help with your commitment to eating better!)
  4. Stream online fitness classes instead of the gym or yoga classes.  Do it on your schedule for less cost than a membership gym or studio classes. (This will help with your commitment to get more exercise!)
  5. Use an independent car repair facility rather than the dealer who generally charges higher prices.  Keep copies of the service record for warranty requirements.  (This will help with your commitment to properly maintain your car!)

For Fun and For FREE!

Sheri here –

Small money changes can add up to saving some serious money!

Last weekend, two of my girlfriends and I did the annual girls’ weekend to Laguna Beach.  It turned into a money success story!

We go to the Pageant of the Masters , stay overnight and then go to the Sawdust Festival the next day.

What on earth is that you ask?  Well, the Pageant of the Masters is a theatrical event where actors reinvent famous (and not so famous) paintings, movie posters, sculptures, lamps and other works of art which include people.

Leveraging costumes, makeup, painted scenery and lighting, the life size replicas on stage are astonishing in the likeness to the artwork.

It is breathtaking!  You sit and stare through your binoculars at the works of art waiting for someone to breath, blink or move.  The actors are so good, that for the few minutes they are on stage in position you see them as still as statues.

A Girls’ Weekend FREE!

Before the show is a wonderful art show. These magnificent art pieces include paintings, sculptures, photos, glass work, fiber art and other beautiful pieces.

Since the three of us have been going for so many years, we generally look for our favorite artists to see their current offerings.

Then we enjoy a leisurely dinner before the show.

After all that excitement, we retired to a local inn, so we can get up early the next day for the Sawdust Festival, another wonderful Art Show.  Once again, we seek out our favorite artists and reminisce on the pieces that we have bought in the past.

So much fun spending a weekend with the girls – self-care at its best!!

But the best part: I had “saved” enough money using many of the simple money saving tips I’ve been sharing in the last couple of blogs (see here) to pay for the weekend – the entrance tickets, the meals, and the room.

Easily Save Some Serious Money!

While I didn’t save quite enough for my artistic purchases, I did pay cash for most of it!

As I’ve mentioned, these tips can save you serious money – enough for a special girlfriends’ weekend!

Where can you convert money you are spending that is no longer serving you and turn it into savings? Whether you use it for a special event or add to your cash reserves…anything is possible!  Consider it a TREASURE hunt!

This week’s 5 hot tips:

1. This may border on the heretic; but, reconsider the brands you use for cosmetics, skin & hair care. Good quality and effective doesn’t mean most expensive!

2. Invite friends over for dinner instead of going out . Make it into a BBQ and/or potluck.

3. Are you using your gym membership enough to make it a worthwhile recurring expense? If no, discontinue it. Look at how much you have spent on the “maybe someday I’ll go” membership.

4. Call your credit card companies and ask for an interest rate reduction. If they say you aren’t eligible for a reduction, ask them what the requirements are. When you meet them, call back and ask again!

5. Summer is the time of lots of travel, including out-of-the-country travel. Use the local currency, it will be less costly than using dollars. Even though shops may accept dollars, you will pay more because they will use the most favorable conversion rate for them, not you!

I would LOVE to hear from you what is your favorite money saving tip?   Just drop it into the comments below!.

Here is to your personal prosperity and abundance this week…talk with you soon!

Rethink How You Spend Money

Sheri here –

In my last blog – Ch-Ch-Changes, I discussed spending cash (no credit cards) only. A MAJOR rethinking of how we spend money!

How is the journey going with you in spending cash only?  Did you try that?  Has it been bringing up old messages you thought were long gone?  Or have you been thinking twice about why you really would want to buy something or other possible trade offs?

Rethinking how we do things

Breaking old habits takes dedicated brainpower.  Interesting things come out of that effort including confronting old ways of thinking (maybe limiting beliefs) and the possibility of new freedoms!

I know it has been a mixed results journey for me – some of the things that I had to look twice at were the Nordstrom’s annual sale – oh, all those goodies!  Then thinking ahead to vacation and all the things I want to do. Decisions, decisions, decisions.  I’d not thought about things at this level, the level of tradeoffs (cash vs. credit) for a while – I’d gotten complacent.

There is absolutely nothing stopping us from doing it all, but maybe not all at once!  Take a little time for a reflection on trade offs to do it smartly and how you don’t need to pay for it again and again over time like you do when you put it on your credit card.

As life continues to unfold, are you looking at all the possibilities to go and do and be?

I know that I continue doing that and I’ve also been looking at all the amazing blessings that already exist in my life.  Like sharing with a friend like you how much I appreciate you.

Tips for saving money

Here are 9 tips from my 101 Ways to Save Money to get you started on your savings journey!

1. Do a thrift store crawl. You can find high quality, gently used clothes, especially in fancy neighborhoods. It can be both entertaining and fun, in addition to saving money!

2. Avoid shopping online or buying “stuff” just because it’s on sale; ask yourself if you really need it? My husband regularly tells me I’d save even more if I didn’t buy something just because it was on sale!

3. Occasionally, eat out at a less costly place, you might be surprised by a good meal at a lower price!

4. Look at all your magazine subscriptions – are you reading them? Do they bring you joy or are they just stacking up unread? If going unread, eliminate the subscription and buy an issue occasionally as a treat! This also counts as a green activity – less paper to throw away.

5. If you use a credit card, especially because you use it to get rewards (miles, cash, etc.) pay it off entirely monthly to avoid most service charges or interest.

6. Get your free annual credit reports from each of the three credit bureaus at . Review them for any discrepancies and contact the bureaus to get those discrepancies resolved. These reports will let you know what might impact your credit and cost you in higher interest rates or denied credit.

7. Consider using a “no brand name” gas at a lower cost and similar quality. That $.10 or $.20 a gallon adds up!

8. Is it time to shop around for lower priced insurance or have you recently satisfied yourself that your coverage is both appropriate and cost effective?

9. Sell some of those things sitting around that you don’t use. Have a garage sale or sell them on eBay. Make some money and reduce clutter.

Oh my – that is a LOT to take in.  And it is a LOT of potential money savings.  And it is a lot of possible change, that might be the bigger challenge here to saving money. Perhaps we need to talk about managing and surviving change at another time.

Drop a comment below and let me know if the thought of money or just spending cash (even on your debit card) makes you break out in hives and how I can help!

Ciao and hugs,
