Trading Money for Time

Sheri here –

We hear a lot about trading time for money, but let’s talk about trading money for time!

The first subject, trading time for money, is generally about going to work for someone for a paycheck.

Some of you work or have worked for a paycheck and may still be doing that.  Others have left (or never started) and are in business for yourself – as an entrepreneur or retired, living your dream life.

You have more freedom in where and how you earn your money, but make no mistake, being an entrepreneur is work!

Trade Money for Your Time

When you trade your money for your time –  you hire out a task.  You could hire out a task in your home or businessYou are not doing it, someone else is.

You are then FREE to focus on something that brings you pleasure or to focus on that task only you can do.

There is more to making your money work for you than paying off debt, saving it, or building a retirement fund – it is getting you time back.   Time to work your business and earn more than you would pay someone to do that delegable task or time to enjoy some “you” time.

The added bonus?!  You are employing someone – paying them money so they can further their personal financial picture.  This is a win-win, yes?

A couple of quick examples that come to mind: having someone clean your house, do your gardening or do your grocery shopping.  Yes, you pay and maybe pay a little extra than if you did it; but you have your time available to spend as you choose.

The Possibilities are Endless!

I recently traded money for time with a flu shot.

For some reason, I COULD not find a place I could get the flu shot for free or under my insurance unless I went to my Doctor or I paid for it.

I didn’t like those choices; however, after going to three drug stores to get the same answer, I thought, I’ll just go to my Doctor.

Well, that was a pain!  By the time I finally made an appointment with the Doctor’s office, I’d spent another 20 minutes.

That appointment was going to be a week away and then I’d have to go to the office, wait and drive home.  Probably another 2 hours of my time to get that done.

I felt I had spent enough time chasing after getting a flu shot.  I decided I’d just pay the fee.

And I was happy to pay for it. Those 2 hours became mine, available for me to use for what was important to me, even if it was a nap!

Where in your life are you sub-optimizing your time?  Where can you find someone to do it for you, so you can focus on a higher value (to you) task?

In the comments below post your ideas on what tasks you can delegate to others.  And then what you would do with the time you bought back!

The Magic of Giving

Sheri here –

When you give of your time and money, do you give with a generosity of heart, a generosity of spirit?  Or are there times when you feel that you are being coerced or guilted into giving and it is done in anger or resentment?

When you give with a generosity of spirit do you notice a difference in your attitude and how you feel?

When you give with an expectation of a particular result – are you satisfied with the eventual outcome?  Or are you left empty and still wanting?

I LOVE when I can give of my time and money with a generosity of spirit to a passion project.  I feel filled up and things seems to work so smoothly.

The Law of Giving

In Deepak Chopra’s “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success – A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams”, he talks about The Law of Giving.

He says that “…giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe.  And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.”

He goes on to say: “The gifts of caring, attention, affection, appreciation, and love are some of the most precious gifts you can give, and they don’t cost you anything.

“When you meet someone, you can silently send them a blessing, wishing them happiness, joy and laughter.  This kind of silent giving is very powerful.”

Before more and more of the “suggestions for giving” start to bombard us, consider what your passion projects are and how you can best give with a generosity of spirit.

Giving and Money Saving Opportunities

This week’s money tips are focused on giving opportunities:

  1. Visit the shops that benefit hospitals or other charitable organization, including the Goodwill and Salvation Army, as you look for gifts or other items.  You may find classic pieces for less AND help worthy causes.
  2. Use some of your giving money to fulfill the wish list of a needy child or an older adult on a limited income.

May you have a week filled with love and blessings.

Be Your Authentic Self

Be Your Authentic Self

Sheri here –

Do you ever ask yourself, “what do I want to do when I grow up? Who am I now, who is the authentic me, today?

What are the things that are important to you no matter what? You know, those biggest blessings in your life – the ones that you would go to any length to protect?

Maybe it is your freedom to do as you choose –  to have the best life for your family, to help another person believe in themselves or in their dreams, to spend time doing what you are passionate about, to take a break and pamper yourself or go somewhere special.

Live your authentic, true to yourself life

Let me ask you, are you doing it?

Is that how you are living your life, now, like today, right this minute, now?  Ok, maybe it isn’t every day; but is it once a week or once a month?  Are you living your authentic, true to yourself life?

Sometimes I get so caught up in doing the everyday things, that I lose sight of the important things in my life and I need to be reminded.  It doesn’t need to be a big reminder, it could be a gentle whisper: an email from a friend, a brief glimpse of someone who reminds you of someone, an article on your phone or a movie poster.

Can you relate?  Then maybe you need to take some time, sometime just for you to breath, to think, to dream, to be the authentic you.

What Stops You?

What does it take to be able to live that authentic true to yourself life?  Time, planning, a little money?  What stops you – the time, planning, a little money or all three?

Block some time on your calendar, like you do when you HAVE TO go to the doctor or dentist or a MUST DO event.  Just block the time off.  Make an appointment with yourself for you.  Maybe you need that time to call and spend some time talking or FaceTiming a friend, to plan what is important to you or to escape for a few hours to replenish your soul.

No matter what – keep that appointment with you. Allow yourself to get back in touch with the authentic you.

Maybe you don’t know who the authentic you is any longer?  Allow yourself some time with no distractions to think, to daydream, to doodle, to talk with the Universe, to commune with the stars, to stare at your belly button – whatever clears your mind to think and get reacquainted with who you are today.

You owe that to yourself.  After all this is your life, don’t you want to have some say in how you live it and to be the authentic you?

Choose one “authentic you” thing to plan.  It could be a weekend away with a friend of your choice, possibly, even just you, a party, raise funds for your favorite charity, enroll in school and take a class, start to write a book, learn a new hobby … in other words: ANYTHING YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF DESIRES!

Think of all the steps you need or want to do to create that desired outcome.  You do not need to do any of them right now – just build the plan, unless you are inspired to get into action on one or two.

Now put some target dates to those steps on your plan, then put those dates or timeframes for action in your calendar.  Then act. Start with a small step, then another – they add up!!

So You Say You Need Money

Ok, so you say you need money to fully complete your plan – you know all the suggestions I’ve been sharing with you these last couple of weeks – take the money that you’ve been saving from them and set it aside to fund living your authentic life.  It will happen faster than you think when you take one step at a time or implement one savings at a time…

To help with your money fund, here are 5 more hot tips for saving money!!

  1. Look for an independent massage therapist or a small business, rather than using a spa, for lower massage rates.
  2. Go to the library and borrow a movie, an audio book, an album or other digital media for no cost.
  3. Shop around for a new telephone service (cell or landline for business or personal), check pricing and benefits – investigate the opportunity to get the same or more for a lower price.
  4. Check out your local Credit Union – they may have lower or free checking fees.  Just assure them they are insured with the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.
  5. Comparative shop the various discount travel services for potentially lower rates for airplanes, hotels and cars.  Be certain to read the fine print and consider travel insurance against the unexpected!

Leave a comment and let me know what your authentic self is thinking.  I’d love to hear how you are making plans to be true to you and how I can support you!
